Did you know that human activities are the cause of the majority of brush, grass and forest fires? According to the National Fire Prevention Association, 4 percent of these fires are caused by lightning and the rest are caused by people. SERVPRO® of Mission Valley East offers these steps to prevent grass fires from harming your commercial property or residence in San Diego:
- Maintain defensible space around your property
- Remove all dead vegetation and pine needles from roofs, rain gutters and yard
- Relocate wood piles to 100 feet away from the home and neighboring property
- Trim tree branches and remove dead limbs
- Remove vegetation from underneath your deck that could ignite
- Create separation between anything that could catch fire: patio furniture, trees, swing sets, etc.
- San Diego County requires a minimum of 50 feet of clearance in Zone 1. Check with your local fire department for any additional defensible space or weed abatement ordinances.
These are just a few tips for preventing grass fire damage to your commercial property or residence and should be incorporated into your fire safety plan. Practice the safety evacuation plan with all family members. SERVPRO of Mission Valley East wants to make sure that San Diego is prepared! Call us at 619-303-3599.
