San Diego River Flooding in Mission Valley?
9/13/2021 (Permalink)
The fifty-two-mile-long San Diego River runs through Mission Valley on its way to Mission Bay Park. This river has a long history of flooding, and low-lying areas next to the river, like Mission Valley, have been susceptible to flooding throughout history. The problem is exacerbated by commercial and residential development within the flood plain over the last thirty years. Although the El Capitan Dam was built to intercept the river, Mission Valley is still prone to flooding because it is located in a natural flood plain. To date, there is no viable solution to address the flooding in Mission Valley.
